DIRECTIONS

Suggested use below unless otherwise advised by your health care practitioner.

Adults: 5g (1-2 scoops) daily.

Children above 5 years: No more than half adult dose daily in divided dose or as advised by your healthcare practitioner. For children under 5 please use under the advice of your medical practitioner.

As with any medication, use in pregnancy strictly under the supervision of your medical practitioner.

What is Spirulina?

Spirulina is a species of blue-green algae and extensively used as dietary supplement. It is a superfood because of its high nutritional content and numerous health benefits. It has a very high protein content (above 60%) and therefore suitable for the diets of vegetarians. Spirulina became famous after it was successfully used by NASA as a dietary supplement for astronauts on space missions.

How much Spirulina powder should I take in my normal diet?

Normally Spirulina can be consumed in high quantities. Clinical studies suggest a dosage range of 1 – 8g daily.

What is the best way to take Spirulina as a dietary supplement?

Spirulina has a very strong characteristic smell which may not be the most pleasant for some users. There are several ways of taking it but we recommend taking it straight into a cold glass of water, simply stir it and drink. If the taste is too over powering to some users then it can be stirred into a fruit juice of choice and drink. Some people also sprinkle on some food or make into a smoothie. Spirulina leaves a strong blue green to almost black colouration in the mix.

Is this product suitable during pregnancy?

It has been reported that Spirulina is safe in pregnancy and breast feeding and some people included it as part of your daily diet as Spirulina is a natural source of Folic acid, vitamin B12 which are important supplements during pregnancy. However we strongly recommend that you seek medical advice when using the product and always use with caution in pregnancy and allergic conditions under the supervision of a registered medical practitioner.

Is this product suitable for diabetics?

Spirulina has been reported to manage diabetic patient’s blood sugar levels very well in a clinical trial. The sugar content of Spirulina is a low 3% in with approximately 20% carbohydrate mix. But as Diabetes is a medically diagnosed disease state it is important to check with your medical practitioner before consuming Spirulina products (use under the supervision of your medical practitioner).

Does Millenium Pharmaceuticals provide this product only in tablets?

Yes we do. Millenium Pharmaceuticals provide Spirulina as 500mg tablets and also 1000mg tablets. We use a particular grade of Spirulina which can be tabletted with relatively easily; and therefore we can provide Spirulina in tablet form with minimum use of excipients.
